Mathematical Monday-Footloose

Joining I Heart Recess for Mathematical Monday. 

I have not been asked to evaluate this product or share this by the owner. I just have to share something that works and works really well!

Middle School Math Moments has a whole collection of Footloose activities for so many skills. I own all of the ones below. I love them. Better than that, my students love them. 

There are 30 cards, students are up and active and practicing the selected skill. 

Some of the activities come with problem solving sheets or just extra practice. They have been great as well. I have used them as homework to reinforce even more. 

This is how I make it work. 

I print the cards on colored card stock and laminate. (there are sets with colorful borders too) 

I place the cards on my white board tray. 

Students are allowed to get one card at a time. 

They go back and forth to their seat to work each problem. This keeps them moving.

I love how my students will "talk math" during this activity. 

Then, when they are finished, they grade their work.

I definitely love that, since I have so many students. 

I can even get the grades in the grade book by the end of class. It's awesome! 

I can literally place a chair in the center of my room and be there to facilitate. They are doing all the learning and most of the time all the teaching as well. 

It's FABULOUS!!!! 

I own the ones listed. I have used them all. They are wonderful! 

Mathematical Monday- Review Time

We have TEN school days until state testing, T-E-N! 

We have officially covered all material for sixth grade Math. 

We have spent a lot of time spiraling throughout the year with warm ups and various activities. 

Now, I have TEN days to review everything!!!! 

Last year at this time I was scouring blogs for ideas. I became overwhelmed. I had so many great ideas, but time to get it all together and stuff made, etc... well, that wasn't happening. I know it all worked out, but I remember stressing way too much. 

My life outside of school is stressful enough, I cannot add school stress right now. They don't make enough wine for that! 

So, as my team and I were planning, I have done two things. 

1) I stopped being so bossy and let my partners do some things. I am not a good delegator, I end up just saying, "Ill do it, "I'll make those copies, "I'll make that game", I'll do that power point this weekend", etc.  

This week, I did a little better. I am still doing a lot, but not everything. 

2) I am making use of the AWESOME resources I have purchased this past year on TpT! Sometimes I find great stuff on blogs and TpT and forget about them. Not this time. 

I am making another Jeopardy game from the template I purchased from Kendra Passarelli earlier. It is so easy to edit!!! 

I am using the STAAR review Task Cards I have gotten from Live. Love. Math. Remember, I bought her whole store!!!! My laminator and her products have been my life line this year!!!! 

I love task cards. We are incorporating them in different ways though. 

FYI: She has an 8th Grade Bundle of activities and 7th Grade as well!  

You should just check her store out, she has a ton of GREAT resources!!!  

We are including them in different games and activities. We are using them as warm ups, I am including them in my Jeopardy, and I am using a set for a whole class activity called "Inside/Outside". (I'll write about that after we do it and I have some pictures.)

It has been really easy planning, mostly stress free and that is my goal for the rest of the year.

Mathematical Monday- QR Codes

Happy Mathematical Monday 

In Math, we are completing our Geometry Unit. 

Students took a quiz last week and most did fairly well. 

After a quiz, they track their data and then complete stations for the areas that they are still struggling. 

One of the stations will be reading angles on a protractor. Even though, our standard states they need to know how to measure angles, its actually about reading a picture of a protractor. 

This activity is from Live Love Math. I bought her entire store this past summer and it has been a gold mine for me!

Mathematical Monday - Foldables

And now, for Mathematical Monday with I Heart Recess.

We started a new unit last week. It's over statistics and graphing. 

Time for some new foldables. 

My students made this one for Mean, Median, Mode and Range with a substitute. I was pleasantly surprised when I returned and they turned out like I expected.

We begin graphs today, so I wanted this foldable completed before hand so we could start collecting data and creating graphs right away. 

Plus, it was a relaxing Friday activity. They took a quiz and then cut all that colored paper which they love! 

As they were working, I overheard one conversation. "This class always goes so fast." Then they proceeded to say which classes felt long. All of our classes are 55 or 50 minutes in length. I told them it's because Math is Fun. Not sure they bought it, but I love that they aren't bored in my class.

We are a HUGE football family and we are gearing up for a GREAT game!!! 

We are kind of torn though. Love, love, love Payton Manning. He deserves it. Impressed with Seattle too. They are fun to watch. I guess I feel like we are in a win-win situation, which is a nice change. (Die hard Cowboy fans here, seriously, nuff said!) 

My students will be doing this as a homework assignment. I hope you can use it with your kiddos! 

Mathematical Monday

One of my teaching partner made these and let me borrow them for one of my classes. 

Ice Cream Combinations: 

Each group was given a cone and a cup. 

They were randomly given flavors of ice cream and randomly given toppings. 

Students had to create tree diagrams and a number sentence to show how many combinations they could make with their ice cream. 

Students made a group poster to share with the class. 

 Now I have a small display outside my room. 

This was a great Monday type activity. 

Mathematical Monday & Tried It Tuesday- Math Snacks

Yesterday was Mathematical Monday with Jess at I Heart Recess and today Tried It Tuesday with Holly over at Fourth Grade Flipper. Getting two for the price of one! Since everything I try is Math, it fits, right?

We began ratios and proportions last week. This is new for all my students. This is not a skill they have previously learned. In the past, it has challenging. 

To make it fun, I introduced it with this video: The Bad Date. It is just darn funny. Sixth graders love it. It last all of 3 minutes and 37 seconds. But, they get the basic concept from this video. 

I then made a quick foldable and used it as an example. 

This past weekend, I was playing around on a school iPad and noticed that Math Snacks was an app. So, I investigated a little more and holy moly!, there are lessons that go with this video. They are other lessons too! 

Math Snacks were designed for middle schoolers, which I love. It's so hard to find good resources. 

They are short animations that keep kids engaged and teach  them too! Gotta love that. 

They include a Learner Guide for Students and a Teacher Guide for teachers. It's all done for me, another thing I love! 

My students are doing ratio and proportion centers right now. They are watching a different Math Snacks video on ratio and proportions and completing the worksheet that goes along with it. INSTANT CENTER! No work needed by me!!!
