A Complete Interactive Notebook - Final Installment

Several times this school year, I have shared every page of my interactive notebook.
This will be the final pages.

1-47 can be found here.

48-100 can be found here

And now for the last installment.

This next unit scared me the most this year. It was new for me and our kids.
It ended up being one of my most favorites to teach!
I shared about it here. There are more pictures at that post.

At this point in the year, I introduced another new unit for us all, Personal Financial Literacy.
Instead of using our journals though, I created an interactive lap book. We took a few weeks off from our notebooks and made these:

These became part of this unit, It can be found here
Financial Literacy Flippables

Our last unit was after our state test and taught 7th grade standards. (I teach advanced so we do both)

These flippables became part of this unit, available here
Probability Flippables

This was the last page. If time had allowed I really wanted to do an end of the year foldable about Math and the whole notebook use. But, it didn't happen. I can save that for next year.

Hope these photos are helpful for you and your interactive notebook adventure!

Tried It Tuesday- Reality Is Setting In

It's Tuesday, time to link up with Holly at Fourth Grade Flipper

As I was thinking about what I wanted to share, I thought, "I am so swamped and overloaded, I feel like we aren't doing anything good enough that I can share."

But, I really want to share, so I kept thinking.

Last night I read a post from someone about their interactive notebooks. The comment that stuck in my head was, "I don't know if I am doing this right..."

I am under the belief that there is no right or wrong way to use interactive notebooks. Having kids involved in their learning process is what it should be.

Sometimes we make these great foldables

and some times we do this: (page 47)
It's called reality. They were good problems though.

I wanted to make this cute foldable for the metric system.

Then I realized my son had a doctor's appt and I had to be absent for half a day. So this is what we made.

It may not be all fancy, but it is working. My students are using their notes for their work. They look in their notebooks when they are working. They ask to take their binders home to help with their homework.
(BTW, I don't allow this. I have all my notes on my website. I am way too possessive to let them take them home and chance not returning them)

I guess I am just trying to say, do what works for you and your kids

I TRY to make cool foldables. Sometimes we just get colorful notes.

Five for Friday-Math Notebook Edition

Once again, it's Friday from a full and busy week. Time to link with Doodle Bugs for 5 for Friday.

I started this week with 2/3 of my work out buddies.
We completed an 8k run. I like 5k runs more, but it was good afterward when we said, we finished. I was pleased with my time, there were lots of hills! Our "sergeant" as we call her, won 3rd place in her age group. She ran fast and was still upset with herself because she "could have one better!" We just roll our eyes at her. I was just glad I didn't pass out!

Then math, math, math note booking fun.

We started our Unit 2 this week, factors, factors and more factors!

Prime factorization: Thanks to Runde's Room for this cute idea!
The left side is a warm up the next day. This way students can show what they know.

This lead to Exponents
I have never taken notes on exponents, but I know this is going to make a huge difference next week we start order of operations.

Greatest Common Factor:

This is FREE here.

Least Common Multiple
Saw this on Pinterest this summer. It was easy and quick and the kiddos loved how big the M was. Next week, they will write on the left side about how to find the LCM or I might do the difference between factors and multiples since they seem to get those confused.

It's Friday night, it's raining and we are off to our local Mexican restaurant with friends for yummy food and even yummiest drinks! Oh happy day!

Math Notebooks- Vocabulary

Linking with 4mula Fun to share about Interactive Math Notebooks. This is her monthly link party for all things interactive notebook. All subjects!
inb linky
Today, I have decided to share about how I have done vocabulary in my notebook.

First, for no particular reason, I use the back of my notebook for vocabulary. This is how it looked in my composition notebooks.

This is how we kept track of it in the table of contents.

This coming school year, I am using binders for my math notebooks. I plan to have the back still be for vocabulary. Our last divider will be for vocabulary.

I have done many different types of vocabulary.

This is the Frayer model. This was one I used in summer school this summer. These were bigger than I have used in class, but same method.

I have also just had students write them out. This was just one variation.

This was a vocabulary wheel we made this past year.

On the right is a vocabulary wheel without the cover.

On the left, we made a pocket to keep vocabulary note cards.I pinned them here.

I have cut up card stock, students write the word on one side, definition on the other. The right side was flaps we made one day.
I saw the left side on Runde's Room. My kids love using the gold brads for some reason.  The right side is a shutter fold we made for types of graphs.
We made this one when studying circles. Another of my favorites because it was different than just writing definitions out. I am sure I found that on Pinterest too.

Then, this summer I found this. How awesome is this??!!!!
I absolutely LOVE it.
Mrs. Hester's Classroom: Top 5 Things I LOVE About Interactive Math Notebooks: #1-2
This is from Mrs. Hester's Blog, she has great posts about interactive notebooks. Definitely check her out and prepared to fall in love!

How you use vocabulary in your class, doesn't really matter. But, using it is the key. I teach many ESL students and this is critical to their learning.
Having these words in their math notebooks makes it easy for me to direct them to use it as we are working. All of these words are posted in my room on the word wall or anchor charts, but for students to have these at their fingertips daily helped a great deal.

So now, I am forced with deciding to make a glossary type dictionary or by units with various methods.  I could still do foldables for each unit. But, I really don't have time in my day to do both. Just not sure what to do. I would love to hear your opinions.
